More Christian Education in Chad

Under a thatched roof, children sit fidgeting on benches, faces with hope and excitement in their eyes turned towards the blackboard as they gather each morning to learn. Their parents share their gratitude for this opportunity for their children. The students are learning math, reading, and much more as they grow with each grade. An amazing thing is, though they are in a predominantly Muslim community, the parents and leaders of the village have expressed that the teachers in the school can also teach about the Bible and Jesus Christ. We pray that as this next generation of children grows and is educated, God raises up leaders who are followers of Christ.

With the success of a first school, Gethsemane de Meube, established in Boudamasa, there has been an increasing desire for more schools in other villages. In response, the CLB has started a second school: Gethsemane de N’Djamena-Bousso. It is located in N’Djamena-Bousso, a small town between Bousso and Doh. This is a town of about 5,000 people, located just on the north banks of the Chari River, approximately 250 miles south and east of N’Djamena, the capital city of Chad. The school property is located on the outskirts of the town.

One thing that is needed is a permanent security fence, about 1,500 feet in total length, that will surround the school classrooms, the teacher housing, the well, and the eventual orchard. The security fence will consist of a short brick wall, with a chain link fence on top. Because this fence, and the housing for three teachers and their families, are first on the agenda, WMCLB has budgeted a $14,500 gift for these projects. A well and water tower will also need to be installed and classrooms built. Currently, they meet in thatch classrooms that were hastily constructed last year behind the home of a partner missionary to make it possible for classes to begin, but more permanent structures are needed. The construction has already begun!

We are so excited to partner in funding the start of the school! This is your project and mission with us, and we are thrilled to come together and support our 2025 Focus Project. Cup Of Blessing is a great time for special events and fundraisers. We have a number of resources that you can share with your whole church!

The school is our focus project, but it is not the only thing we have the privilege of supporting this year. We are also purchasing 100 audio Bibles to be distributed in Chad.

For Hillcrest Lutheran Academy, in Fergus Falls, MN, we funded an Aviation Simulator, Robotics Kits, and Banquet Serving Equipment. We sent support for the MK Retreat that was held this past fall at IPoint Camp & Retreat Center near Vining, MN. We have funds available for CLB church plants that have special needs and projects throughout the year. So, this past fall, we helped with renting equipment for Word of Life in New Prague, MN, to hold an outdoor community service. We also have our annual projects like the SWEET Retreat for seminary women and wives, and the HELP fund for our missionaries.

Karen Stenberg is Director of Women’s Ministries of the Church of the Lutheran Brethren.
